Our Progress

This page of our website is meant to walk through what we have done so far to further our progress in finding the best method to tackle homelessness in our local area. Follow along to see where we started and where we are now.

December 2021: First meeting with BIMSI

During our first joint meeting, we began a discussion about the issue of homelessness in Los Angeles. We acknowledged how large-scale of a problem homelessness continues to be, and began our research into what the city of LA has done about this.

January 2022: Letters to Councilmen

In January, we sought next steps in our plan. We sent letters to some of the Los Angeles Councilmen to ask them where we should take our project. We wanted tangible ways to enact change.

January 2022: Arroyo Seco Tiny Homes Visit

Later in the month, we took it upon ourselves to visit other homelessness projects in the area for inspiration. One of the most inspirational places we visited was the Arroyo Seco Tiny Homes Village. We took great interest in the ability to give homeless people privacy, resources, and amenities that they would not get in homeless shelters.

Feb -April 2022: Homelessness Challenge

Later in the year, Harvard Westlake's Venture Organization held a competition where participants could present their ideas and have the chance to receive funding for them. Olivia and Sage presented to a panel of judges and were connected with a professional in the field of Homeless Housing. After a very informational meeting with her, and after noting down her advice, Olivia and Sage felt prepared to take action.

August 2022: Proposal to City Councils

As our most recent step, we decided it would be important to attend city council meetings and propose our ideas. We hope that putting ourselves out there will be able to shift the way some cities in the San Gabriel Valley choose to address homelessness.
